History and Growth of the Vallakalil Network Website, and its Vision

In 1994, a group of genealogists coordinated by Mr. Jacob Philipose Vallakalil (Kunj) published 'History of Vallakalil Family and Genealogy'. The 1994 Vallakalil Family Meet Managing Committee which managed the task of compiling the information consisted of:

President: Mr. K.C. Oommen (Kunjoonju)                Vice-President: Mr. Oommen Chandy (Kunjoonju)

Secretary: Mr. Jacob P. Vallakalil (Kunj)                 Joint Secretary: Mr. George Vallakalil (Georgekutty)

Treasurer: Mr. Mathew Iype (Bobby)                     Auditor: Mr. V.I. Jacob (Kunj)

Committee Members: Mrs. Ammini Thomas Edathumpadikal, Mrs. Annie Mammen Malayil, Mrs. Achamma Verghese Kalathil, Mr. Jacob Thomas (Bappu), Mr. K. Jacob Vallakalil (Baabji) and Mr. V.M. Koshy (Koshykunj).

Above publication and its prior versions were facilitated with active support of: Mrs. Aleyamma Philipose (wife of Mr. Jacob Philipose Vallakalil (Pappachan)), Mr. K.O. Chandy (Kunjachen - Akkilchayan), Dr. Thomas Vallakalil (Thomachan), Mr. V. Perumal Jacob (Kunj), Mr. V.M. Oommen (Kunjachan), Mr. K.C. Oommen (Kunjoonju), Mr. V.I. Perumal (Kutty), Dr. K. Thomas (Kunj), Mr. John Jacob Vallakalil (Babychan), Mr. V.I. Ittycheria (Kochunnoonny), Mr. K.C. Joseph (Babu), Mr. V.M. Koshy (Koshykunj), Dr. V.I. Ittycheria (Joy), Mr. V. Jacob Varapatra (Baby), Mr. Alex Vallakalil (Lalji), and Mr. Perumal Mathew (Shajan). If you note any errors or omissions in the support group list, please inform webmaster@vallakalil.com.

As stated in the preface of above publication, the idea was in response to persistent requests from those members who are born or brought up outside Kerala State, India interested in the heritage, culture and identity of Vallakalil Family. Many, being unable to converse in Malayalam language have made it necessary for the brief history of Vallakalil Family to be brought out in English. The database for the initial contents were derived from the 1994 publication of 'History of Vallakalil Family and Genealogy', which is an abridged version of extracts from the books published in Malayalam language namely 'Vedopadesasarangal' by Mr. Chacko Kochu Chacko, in 1951 and 'A History of Kottayil Family' prepared by the Kudumbhayoga Committee in 1972 and through inherited knowledge.

This website is an outgrowth of 'History of Vallakalil Family and Genealogy', to provide a single entry point for all families related to Vallakalil Family, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one sub-branch, they could be located in the index. At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page.

Volunteering:
Contact the coordinator for the appropriate branch or country if you have a desire to add your data to the database. If the branch in which you are interested does not have a link, or you are unable to get to the member enrollment web page and you wish to participate, please contact webmaster@vallakalil.com, and request for the enrollment web page link be sent to you.
